Overall it was a terrific tournament and all the girls had a great time! Way to go Vienna All-Stars.
U14 Boys
U14B showed how much they grew in skills, character and sportsmanship in a very challenging and competitive tournament. After allowing a goal in the first few minutes of the first game, the team built a wall that shutout every opponent for 180 minutes of hard playing time. U14B was seeded #4 after the first round with 2-1-1 record, went to win the quarter finals 3-0 and only lost the semifinal to SYA 1-0 for a very unfortunate play in our box. Every player gave his best and tirelessly worked for the team. Way to go U14 Boys: Go Vienna.
U8 Girls
All 5 teams were very successful!! Out of 35 games, they combined for a record 27 wins, 4 losses and 4 ties. The format included large goals 6’x12’ and no keepers. Our teams handled the challenge well with a combined goal differential of 107-28. Way to go AS Coaches and players!!! We did Vienna Proud!!
U11 Girls White
The Vienna Strikers (U11G White) had an outstanding tournament. We tied SYA, the tournament winners on Sat. 0-0 and then again on Sunday 1-1 only to lose in the shoot out (2-1). During regulation, only one goal was scored the entire week-end against the Strikers tenacious defense. This defense was led by Kristen Putman, Goalie; Kaitlin Gutenson, Sweeper and Maeve Carroll; Center Midfielder as well as Page Murray, Alexa Rebibo, Georgia Brandt, and Seta Nair. Passing was our strength on offence with goals being scored by Kaylin Fee, Nicky Seal and Sam Haseley. Trisha Fry also contributed on both office and defense with tremendous speed. Overall it was a terrific tournament and all the girls had a great time!
U9B Vienna Blue
The Vienna Red Rockets took the title in the top division for U9B. They showed how defense, teamwork and perseverance can turn things around. A slow start on Saturday where they posted a 1 and 3 record, led to being seeded 7th after the first day – the last seed in the top division. The boys came back and played outstanding team soccer on Sunday, with fierce defense and strong offense. They beat an FPYC team that had shut them out the day before. The Sunday score against FPYC was 1-0 after a thrilling breakaway goal in the first half. The referee commented it was the best match he had seen all weekend! The Red Rockets moved on to face a strong Loudoun team that also had shut them out on Saturday. This match was more of a shootout, with the Rockets coming out on top 3-2. In the final, the Rockets faced an Annandale team that had knocked out the #1 seed. To add to the drama, the final game ended at 2-2 after regulation, and was decided in a penalty kick shoot-out won 5-3 by the Rockets. Congratulations to the Red Rockets (U9 Vienna Blue) boys and their coach.
Coaches Report – Michele Sullivan & Drew Fielding
We had a great time coaching our U8 Girls All Stars team, The Smashers! We enjoyed their great attitudes, non-stop hustle, competitive spirit and skill level, plus their willingness to try out new moves and plays. They came together as a team very well in a short period of time.
