Program:  VYS U8 Cross Over Training (House - Players)

About: The cross over academy program is designed specifically for the U7 –U10 player. We feel confident that this program will develop the "game within your child". The cross over academy will be a program that focuses on "player development" and not the development of "my team - your team". The academy will identify players who are ready for a more challenging and competitive environment. The Academy will also serve as an introduction to the level of play that can be expected for those desiring to make the transition to travel soccer.

Day of the week: Tuesdays 

Location:  Vienna Adventist Academy

Dates: April 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th; May 6th, 13th, 20th,  (make up – TBD)

Time: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm Boys / 6:00 - 7:00pm Girls (Times rotate after 4 weeks, girls early, boys late)

Gender: Boys & Girls

Number of sessions: 8 sessions + 6 games 

Number of players: 48 Max - Boys / 48 Max – Girls

VYS U8 Cross Over FAQs

-    What is U8 Cross Over

The cross over academy program is designed specifically for the U7 –U8 player. We feel confident that this program will develop the "game within your child". The cross over academy will be a program that focuses on "player development" and not the development of "my team - your team". The academy will identify players who are ready for a more challenging and competitive environment. The Academy will also serve as an introduction to the level of play that can be expected for those desiring to make the transition to travel soccer.

-    Who is eligible?
Players who are registered with VYS house soccer can register for VYS Cross Over program. 

-    What is the training like?
Training is very similar to Travel soccer. Players are challenged and trained through a curriculum, which includes the core skills, dribbling, passing, control, shooting, 1v1.

-    How many sessions and games per season?
During the spring and fall – 8 training sessions/ 3 games on Sundays.
Summer camps are offer in July and August.
Winter clinics are offered in January – 8 training sessions.

-    Cross Over LMVSC league.
LMVSC cross over league in based in Alexandria, VA. During the spring and Fall, VYS cross over players are split into teams and play 6 league games on Saturday afternoon against local clubs. Players are rotated each week to play with different VYS cross over players. Teams are coached by VYS Cross over parent coaches (selected by cross over director)

-    Does cross over guarantee a spot in travel?
No, cross over does not guarantee a spot on the travel team, However players are exposed to the travel coaches and the cross over training will provide valuable skills for the tryouts.

-    Travel Soccer and Tryouts.
VYS U9 Travel tryouts are in June each year. We select 44 players per gender to form 4 teams. Players must attend tryouts to be considered for travel soccer. Please check out the Travel soccer FAQ for more information. 

-    Is Cross over a year round program?
Yes, We offer winter, Spring and Fall programs and camps in the summer.

-    What can my son/ daughter do at home to improve their skills?
Players are encouraged to practice at home. We will provide links to videos on the VYS website for at home training. We also suggest that players watch games on TV and live to understand different positions and set plays.

Improvements for Spring 2014
*Better field at Vienna Adventist Academy
*Revamped curriculum and training methods
*All games at LMVSC will be on turf and against other clubs, including the *girls games.
*Seasonal feedback to players including written feedback and we are exploring the options of video analysis.
*Better communication between the academy staff – coaches – parents
*Better resources for parents and players
*An AGC (Age Group Coordinator) will be selected to help with communication and administrative tasks
* U9 Travel coaches will be asked to apply through the travel committee who will decide which coaches will be involved after the tryouts.
