Referee Recertification Clinic and New Grade 8 Referee Class

Referee Recertification
Vienna will be holding three referee recertification clinics this year. If your badge says “2011” and you area grade 8, 9, or 12 referee you should attend this class so that you can referee in 2012. All classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 9:30 p.m. each night at Thoreau Middle School. Attendance at both classes is required for recertification. The first class will be held January 10 and 12; the second class will be held February 6 and 7;, and the third class will be held February 21 and 28. All classes will meet in the Lecture Hall.
To register you will first need to go to the State Referee web site – www.vadcsoccerref.com – and make sure that there is still space available in the class by going to the clinic listings and seeing if it is still “open.”   Then, follow the directions to register with United States Soccer Federation as a referee for 2011 (and pay $65.00 by credit card). Once you have registered at the USSF web site you will need to wait a day or two for the data to transfer to the State system, and then you need to log onto the State registration system, and sign up for the referee recertification class of your choice. Finally, please send an e-mail to Diane Florkowski, the instructor, to verify that you have successfully completed the process.
If you have any questions, please contact Diane at dflorkowski@cox.net

New Referee Class
If you have ever been interested in refereeing and are at least entering the 7th grade, this is your chance to give it a try. The class will consist of six evening sessions – January 27, February 3, 10, 17, and 24, and March 2. We begin at 6:30 and run until 9:30 each night at Thoreau’s Lecture Hall. This is a “referee grade 8 class” which has nothing to do with school grades. If you pass you will be eligible to referee until December 2012 (at which time you will need to recertify).
Interested? Then you will first need to go to the State Referee web site – www.vadcsoccerref.com – and make sure space is available in the class by going to the clinic listings and seeing if it is still “open.” Then follow the directions to register with United States Soccer Federation as a grade 8 referee (and pay $65.00 by credit card). (Please note your userid and password for future reference.) Once you have registered at the USSF web site you will need to wait a day or two for the data to transfer to the State system, and then you need to log onto the State registration system, and sign up for the new referee class in Vienna. Finally, please send an e-mail to Diane Florkowski, the instructor, to verify that you have successfully completed the process.

Referee Engagement Letter
Spring 2011

Welcome or welcome back to Vienna Youth Soccer. We are looking forward to another great season and you referees are part of what makes VYS such a well run organization.

PLEASE READ THE REFEREE GUIDELINES ON THE VYS WEBSITE PRIOR TO ONLINE SIGNUP. ALSO REMEMBER WHAT GRADE YOU ARE CERTIFIED FOR. GRADE 9 IS LIMITED TO U-14 AND BELOW HOUSE AND MAY ONLY AR TRAVEL GAMES UP TO U-14 (however that will only be allowed after the referee has significant experience at the house level).

I am planning on holding ONLINE referee sign up starting Friday, March 25th at 6 pm. Referees will be able to select 10 games in the first round. The first round will close Sunday, March 27 at 6 pm. DO NOT MAKE ANY REQUESTS BEFORE FRIDAY, MARCH 25TH AT 6 PM.

Assignments will be made based on experience and fairness. My goal is to get everyone at least 10 games if that’s what they want to work. If there are siblings, parents or friends that would like to work games together, please email in advance and I will do my best to respect those wishes when assigning.

As it is in everyone’s best interest to have referees work two consecutive games, priority will be given to referees that request two games in a row. You are limited to two games in a row unless you request to work more games and I say it’s ok.

Please don’t leave holes in the schedule. By this I mean if there are six consecutive U10G games, you should either request games 1 & 2 or games 3 & 4 or games 5 & 6. If you request games 2 & 3, for example, you will likely not get the assignment.

Please remember that many, many referees will request the same games. I can only choose one referee per position. Once sign up closes, I will start assigning games. If receive an email saying your request has been declined, you may select another game. You may select a new game each time you are declined. You should never have more than 10 games requested at one time. Therefore, for games that your request is accepted you may not request another game until the second round of sign up is opened.

I know this may seem confusing, especially for those of you new to VYS so feel free to ask questions.

Please do not request more than 10 games and please do not signup prior to 6 pm on March 25th. You may go to MSL to look at the schedule. House games are currently posted, however, the schedules may change. ODSL, SFL and HSGL games will be posted once they are sent to me.

Again, if you have questions about this process, please feel free to ask. I would again ask you to review the referee guidelines on the VYS website prior to Friday, March 25th.

Thanks,
Dianne
