Fall 2006 Season - Top Scorers
2 goals – Mike S
1 goal – Camron
1 goal – Omari
2 goals – (TBC) To Be Confirmed
BAC BC United 0:1 VYS Vipers
Sunday, September 10 – 3PM – South Run Park #4, Springfield, VA
Half-Time 0:0
Vipers’ scorer – Mike S
VYS Vipers opened their league season with a win on the road for the second season in a row. The weather was warm but reasonable for the time of year and the Vipers were in possession and moving forward well during the game. It took a through ball and on-running Mike S to surge into the box and hit the ball with power to break the deadlock. As the game drew to a close BC United applied more and more pressure but the Vipers held on and deserved the three points.
VYS Vipers 0:4 VSA Heat 90
Sunday, September 17 – 10:30AM – Capitol One #1, Vienna, VA
Half-Time 0:1
The Capital One field is an excellent setting for a soccer game. It is compact and soccer specific and on a nice morning with a damp field the Vipers did not play up to their full potential and were punished in the second half with some goals that should have been avoided. The Vipers did not hold on to the ball enough to play their own game and will need to take the lessons from the game into midweek practices.
VYS Vipers 0:3 STER Courage 90
Sunday, September 24 – 1:00PM – Kilmer MS, Vienna, VA
Half-Time 0:1
After failing to reach their full potential in the previous week the Vipers played much better in the first half and were unfortunate to be losing 1-0 at half-time but the goal was a very well taken volley. The Vipers started the first half brightly and Omari floated in a free-kick that came back off the crossbar. In the second half the Vipers did not start well and lost a goal from each side of defense. The second goal was a narrow shot from the left and the third goal a break down the right. Although tiring, the Vipers did rally in the later stages and determined play kept the Courage from adding another goal.
GRFL GFA 90 3:0 VYS Vipers
Saturday, September 30, 2006 – 1:00 am Nike Park #4, Great Falls, VA
Half-Time 2:0
The Vipers were outplayed on a wet and slippery field in Great Falls. They were out-passed and out-played but remained determined during the whole game and kept the score respectable.
VYS Vipers 0:2 VBSC AC Milan
Sunday, October 1, 2006 – 11:00 am Colvin Run ES, Vienna, VA
Half-Time 0:1
In a game that was more balanced than the scoreline suggests VBSC AC Milan made the best of their chances on the day and scored goals either side of half time.
CYA Tigers 2:1 VYS Vipers
Sunday, October 15, 2006 - 3:30 pm – Word of Grace #2, Chantilly, VA
Half-Time 1:0
Vipers’ scorer – TBC
The field was a relatively new turf field and allowed for a fast paced game. After losing a goal early in the first half the Vipers worked their way back into contention with a goal in the middle of the second half but they almost immediately fell behind and despite rallying towards the end of the game the Vipers did not make up the deficit.
PWSI Courage ’90 White 4:1 VYS Vipers
Sunday, October 22, 2006 – 10:00 am Tyrrell Park #1, Woodbridge, VA
Half-Time 2:1
Vipers’ scorer – Omari
The Vipers’ sweeper had to leave the game in the first half and the team never recovered. Always behind but holding the game relatively close the Vipers scored directly off a corner kick. Despite a rally the game and the score ran away in the last few minutes.
VYS Vipers 3:0 MCLN Celtic
Sunday, October 29, 2006 – 11:00 am Colvin Run ES – Vienna, VA
Half-Time 1:0
Vipers’ scorer – Camron, Mike S, TBC
With a backup goalkeeper it was always going to be an interesting game. The strangest moment was when the referee blew the final whistle early by mistake and both teams had to go back out and finish the game! The first half was even and the Vipers took the lead following a goalmouth scramble with Mike S getting the final touch to knock the ball in the back of the net. The game remained tightly balanced until after the middle of the second half when Camron sent an amazing long range strike over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. With a two goal cushion the Vipers played a much better game and with Celtic going all out for a goal the Vipers put together a great passing sequence that thoroughly deserved a goal. A three goal margin was probably not a fair reflection of the difference between the teams but for once it went in the Vipers’ favor when many times in the season it seemed to end up the other way.
FREE Fire 2:0 VYS Vipers
Sunday, November 5, 2006 – 3:00 pm Murtagh #1 – Bowie, MD
Half-Time 1:0
On the day the Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys in a game with a blocked field goal and a late kick, a few miles away, the Vipers were called into action on the soccer field. The Vipers played well and left the home team who are promotion bound wondering how they will fare in a higher division. The game was close but again the Vipers did not create enough chances and the Fire played a solid game and took their own chances.
