VSA Bull Run Memorial Day Tournament, May 24-25, 2008
VYS Premier Black entered into an oustanding tournament in Prince William County for Memorial Day. The competition was tough, including some NCSL and ODSL Division 1 teams. In our first game against NVSC ARSENAL BLUE, Black came out of the gate strong with a lot of first-half offense and a 2-0 lead at the half. Arsenal (the eventual tournament winner) came back strong in the 2nd half and unleashed a powerful offense that scored on several breakaway opportunities, putting the game out of reach. The second game against VSA Heat Gold 96B was a similar story, with the Heat coming back strong after a 2-0 Black lead at the half. This time, however, the defense held and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Our best showing of the tournament was in a dominant 5-1 win over VSA Heat 96B Blue on artificial turf. The passing and ball control was sharp on the turf field and nearly everyone had a chance to score. Finally, Black ended the tourney with a disappointing 1-2 loss to the Sterling Rapids. Although are 1-2-1 finish put us in the middle of the pack for the tournament, we showed some toughness against some outstanding opponents and learned a lot about our team.

MCLN McLean AC, June 8, 2008
VYS Premier Black finished its regular ODSL season strong, with a 0-0 tie with the undefeated and first-place McLean team. Premier Black was the only team to hold them scoreless all season and nearly pulled out a victory with several close scoring opportunities. The two top teams in the division battled in record-setting 98-degree heat to a near deadlock. Both teams had opportunities to score in this intensely physical game, but for both teams their defenses prevailed. Black was the only team this season to match up to McLeans their speed and strength, and finished in 2nd place in the division for their efforts.
