Another incredible weekend of soccer by our Comet girls! Despite an auspicious start with the goal setup at Colvin Run (thanks to Coach Dave for knowing who to call to get us straightened out), it was a lot of fun. As Coach Dave noted in his email, it’s great to see the girls apply what they’re learning in practices and become better players as the season progresses. I continue to be amazed at the drive and energy exhibited by the entire team. Each time we take the field I know that no matter what else happens our players are going to give it all they’ve got. Our girls have bonded well both on and off the field, and they count on one another. The social activities at Oakton/Madison HS girls soccer games, swimming at Coach Dave’s, and the various other events have all been great in this respect. Thanks to everyone who has helped to set these up, I think they make a big difference. I really hope we get a chance to take the team to a DC United game before the season is out (when we don’t have a double-header weekend).
The coaches picked Raina as our player of the week. This is a tough decision for the coaches each week. We have so many players who work hard, both in practices and games. We thought Raina stood out this past week. Raina never stopped pushing at practice, and as Coach Dave noted in his email, Raina’s stubborn defensive work against McLean was a critical factor in our success. Congratulations Raina, and thanks for all of your hard work!
We’ve got another double-header this weekend against Alexandria Revolution White on Sat afternoon, and against Annandale X-treme on Sun afternoon. Playing in goal this week will be Alyssa, Jeanne, Anna, and Audra. The coaches are all looking forward to another great weekend of soccer! See you this weekend.
Gooooo Comets!
