Coach's Blog - 05/16/08
Well, I’ve been meaning to get another blog entry up all week. You’d think with all the rain I would’ve had more time.
We didn’t quite get in as much soccer as we wanted last weekend, but we were fortunate enough to get in a game on Sun against the ABGC Annandale X-treme. I noted a few things we need to reinforce with our players, but overall another strong performance by the Comets. One thing I noticed, which has been more often the case this spring, is that more of our players are making strong contributions on offense. On Sun we had goals from 5 different players, many of whom have not traditionally been our top scorers. Being able to make a quick transition from defense to offense, and knowing how to support each other is a big part of this. We’re still learning, but I think our Comets are starting to pick this up.
The coaches selected Hannah as this week’s ’Player of the Week’. Although Hannah did not score last Sun (I put her in on a lot of defense), her attitude is always great. Hannah has continued to work hard throughout the season, and she’s been a strong contributor to our team progress in both practices and games. Congratulations to Hannah!
We’ve got another great weekend of soccer coming up. Assuming weather permits, we’ve got a scrimmage tonight in Bristow against the NVSC Jnr Majestics, and then we face the BRYC Lighting at Colvin Run on Sun afternoon. As you all are probably aware, Reilly has been out this week due to a (hopefully) minor knee issue. Reilly will most likely not play this weekend, but I’m sure the rest of the team will step up in her absence, and we look forward to having Reilly back soon.
The goalies for our upcoming games are: Sun 5/18 - Hannah & Raina, Sat 5/31 - Alyssa & Jeanne, and Sun 6/1 - Reilly & Audra. I may alter that schedule slightly in order to account for some leg soreness with Jeanne or Reilly, but that is the current plan.
Also, one other item. All of you received player evaluations from winter training. The coaches also received copies of these, and most are spot on in terms of strengths/weaknesses. The coaches have been looking for an opportunity to set up individual sessions to review player progress, though the season has been flying by. We’d still like to do this, but it may be towards the end of the season before we can get it coordinated. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions on these or wants to talk with us, just let Lori, Dave, Emil, or I know.
Thanks, and see you this weekend!
Gooooo Comets!
