Coach's Blog - 06/05/08
Well, I'm sorry we missed our last coach's practice yesterday. The coaches were planning to run a couple of drills, but use most of practice to play fun games that the girls selected. We've had a lot of requests to play some fun soccer games at practices, and I know the girls really would have enjoyed it, and I know the coaches were looking forward to it as well.
I thought we had a strong showing last week against SYA Storm. Playing a strong team like SYA Storm always exposes our weaknesses and areas to improve, but overall I was proud of our performance. Despite being tired and the heat, the Comets stayed with SYA Storm throughout the game, there was no point at which they were just completely dominating us. Considering that we were tied at 2-2 just after 1/2 time, I thought the game could go either way. Maddie and Audra did an incredible job for us in goal, and we had a lot of strong efforts from all of our defenders and offensive players in the field. The Storm coach sent me an email afterwards saying how much he'd the competition.
Training with Eddie on Mon focused on some shooting, but also a lot on quick passes and ball control. The drills were challenging for the entire team, and are great for us to continue to emphasize. We have 1 more training session left (today) with Coach Rado, and then 1 more game on Sat vs. Alexandria Revolution White. I'm looking forward to a strong finish to a great 2007-2008 Comets season. We're planning to go with the same lineup that we had planned for the Revolution last week, so Alyssa will be starting in goal, and Macy will be in goal for the 2nd half.
Also, don't forget our scrimmage sessions on Sun afternoon against the House all-star teams!
Gooooo Comets!
