A fitting end to a great season. Despite the extreme heat, the Comets pulled ahead in the 2nd half for a win in their final game over Alexandria Revolution White. Too bad the sprinklers interrupted us late in the 2nd half, although the girls certainly enjoyed cooling off in the water (and cooling me off thanks to Coach Jim’s suggestion). Thanks to the Kims and everyone else that helped get the goals set up at the last minute so that we could actually play! A big thanks to Coach Jim for helping prep the girls and coordinate substitutions today, which was really important due to the heat.
As I look back on the season, I think each of our players has learned a great deal and made significant progress since we began last fall. It’s great to see how far we’ve come as a team from our first pre-season scrimmage last Aug when we were all shocked by the difference between our team and SYA Storm. I hope all of our players enjoyed themselves; they seemed to really bond together well as a team and support each other on the field. We should congratulate each of our players on finishing strong. Overall our Comets fought their way through a very tough schedule this Spring to end the season at an impressive 6 wins and 3 losses, with 31 goals in favor, and 25 goals against.
We have a few more activities yet before we close out a fun and successful Spring 2008 season:
- Scrimmages against the U9 House all-star teams on Sun (tomorrow) from 1:30 - 3:30 pm @ Marshall Rd. ES. Please have the girls wear their white Comets practice shirts and red shorts. I plan on bringing my tent to help the girls stay cool, but if some families can bring coolers with ice and plenty of cool wet rags, that would be great.
- Tryouts on Mon, Weds, & Thurs from 6:00 - 7:30 pm @ Dunn Loring - Murphy Field (same as our Mon practice field with Eddie). This is also likely to be quite hot, so please make sure your girls are prepared. All of our players should plan to attend 2 sessions, or all 3 if they like.
- End of season party at Coach Dave’s on Sat, Jun 14 @ 12 pm. Bring your swim suit and be prepared to get wet!
- DC United game on Sun, Jun 22 @ 3:30 pm. Denise is coordinating this and has sent out eVite invitations, so please look at that or ask Denise for details.
Gooooo Comets!
