Commitment

Commitment to the Vienna Hurricanes is among the most important characteristics each player, coach, and family can bring to the team. The following is a summary of the level of commitment expected to participate on the team.

The USYSA league year begins September 1 and ends August 31, and includes a fall season of league play beginning in early September and a spring season of league play beginning in early April. Players joining the team are expected to commit to playing for the team through the spring season. Annual open tryouts are held at the end of the spring season beginning in June. See the Calendar for current team schedule information.

Summer Training Summer training would be held in July, but there is no organized team training. Players are encouraged to practice at home and to play pickup soccer to maintain their physical conditioning and to improve their soccer skills.

Fall Season The fall season begins in August and ends in November. The typical fall season includes 1.5-hour training sessions three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), a 5-day 3-hour per day training camp in mid-August, 8-9 league games typically played on Sunday afternoon (some on Saturday), and two tournaments (3-4 games each) played on non-league/holiday weekends.

Winter Training Winter training begins in January and ends in February. The typical winter training includes 1-hour training sessions one day per week in a school gym, and participation in an indoor soccer league. All players are encouraged to participate in winter training to maintain their physical conditioning and to improve their soccer skills.

Spring Season The spring season begins in March and ends in June. The typical spring season includes 1.5-hour training sessions three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) concluding with annual open tryouts in June, 8-9 league games typically played on Sunday afternoon (some on Saturday), and three tournaments (3-4 games each) played on non-league/holiday weekends.

Expenses The team semi-annual budget is determined twice a year prior to each season in July and in February. Player dues are then collected by August 31 and by March 31.

The following is a good faith estimate of the shared team expenses required to participate on the team. The actual team budget will depend on actual expense amounts and the number of players on the team. Each player pays their full share of the team expenses regardless of attendance except that a player who joins the team late after player dues have already been assessed is not required to contribute toward the expense of those discrete events* (noted below) that have already transpired.
