Team Expectations

Our goal as coaches is to encourage your children to rise to their fullest potential as soccer players and to help them achieve their personal goals as players.  We want them to have fun while at the same time become better individual and team players.

VYS Storm—Team Expectations

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE COACHES:

  • Coaches will be on time and prepared for practices and games.

  • Coaches will treat girls with respect.

  • Coaches will create an environment in which the girls are motivated, can improve skills, stay focused and still have fun.

  • Coaches will notify team if they have to miss a game or practice.

  • Coaches will communicate often with players and parents.

  • Coaches will always be looking for new drills and techniques to help further the players individual and team skills.

  • Coaches will be accessible to answer any questions or concerns that parents or players have.

OUR EXPECTATIONS OF PLAYERS:

  • Have fun!

  • Do not criticize the play of your teammates.  If any player criticizes one of her teammates, she will be given a warning.  If it happens a second time, she will sit out the remainder of practice or game.

  • Give 100% at every game and practice!

  • Come to practice prepared with cleats, shin guards, ball (size 5), water and a positive attitude!

  • Come to games prepared with uniform (both jerseys), cleats, shin guards, ball, water and a positive attitude!

  • Always pay attention to your coaches.  Do not talk when one of the coaches is talking.  If a player is disruptive during practice she will be required to do a sprint penalty.  If a player continues to be disruptive we will talk with her parents.  If the problem continues after the above steps have been taken, she will lose game time.

  • Arrive on time to practices and games.  If you know you will be late or can not make a practice or game, notify one of the coaches.  Players who continually miss practice will not get as much game time as those who consistently come to practice.  (Family emergencies and illness, of course, will not be counted against a player.)

  • Have a desire to work outside of practice to improve your skills and fitness.

  • When subbing, stay on sideline with teammates and coach, so you will be ready to go back in.  Enter and exit game only at midfield.

  • If you are tired or injured on the field during a game, do not hesitate to notify a coach.  Your health is our #1 priority.

  • After games, cheer the opponent, shake hands and gather with your team before leaving field.

  • Encourage and demonstrate fair play and sportsmanship.  Always treat opponents, fans and referees with respect.  Do not direct negative comments to them on or off the field.  Never argue with the referee!

  • Please advise coaches if you have already competed in another sport the day of a game.

  • Please talk to the coaches if you have any questions or concerns.

OUR EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTS:

  • Be supportive and positive!  Do not make negative comments about another team’s players, coaches or referees.

  • Please have players at games and practices on time.  Players need to be at the field for a game (ready to go) 30 minutes before the start of the game for a proper team warm-up.  Contact a coach if help is needed getting a player to a game or practice.

  • Do not coach from sidelines during game.

  • Parents are not allowed on either end of field beyond the penalty box area or behind the goals.

  • Never yell at the referee!  Do not say anything to a referee or assistant referee.  If you have any thoughts or questions, bring them to a coach.

  • Do cheer!  Keep all comments positive.  Remember, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything!

  • Talk to coaches if you have any questions or concerns.  The best time to talk with the coaches is before or after practice, after a game or feel free to contact any of us by phone or email.

Kids play, Coaches coax, Refs ref and Parents cheer.  I am extremely excited about coaching the team this season.  I saw some great things at the tournament this weekend and cannot wait to see what the rest of the season brings for the players and the team as a whole.
