United Red has been associated with VYS since the team’s inception in 2003 and remains largely (but not entirely) a team of boys from the Vienna-Oakton area. We plan to play at least three tournaments this year (including the Festival of Soccer tournament in West Virginia this June). We practice three days a week in season, play indoor in the winter, and hold a summer camp prior to the Fall season. We gladly accommodate boys playing for their high school teams, and hold one of our three practices on Saturday.
Head Coach Karl Henry was born in Liverpool, England in the swinging sixties and has been playing football for almost forty years, playing for a variety of amateur and military teams before advancing years and worn out knees brought an end to his playing days. Karl qualified as an English Football Association (FA) badged coach whilst on the coaching staff of an FA Charter Standard Development Club. Before coming to the US in 1997 Karl spent seven years coaching with Rheindahlen Youth Football Club in Germany. Karl has coached VYS teams since arriving in the country, and now exclusively coaches VYS United Red.
