Welcome to the VYS 99G Patriots Web Site

We wear red. We wear white.
We shoot, we score, we fight, fight, fight.
Gooooooo Patriots!

The VYS Patriots is a U11 girls soccer program.  The Patriots consists of four teams, Patriots Black, Patriots Red, Patriots Silver and Patriots White, that play in two leagues; Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS) and Old Dominion Soccer League (ODSL).  The Patriots organization works as a single, academy program rather than four separate teams.  The girls practice and train together under a single trainer, with all coaches participating in the practices.  The Patriots are taking a long-term approach to develop the girls’ skills for the future so that when they reach the more competitive ages the girls will have mastered the fundamentals.

The four VYS Patriots soccer teams had tremendous success in preseason tournaments the weekends of March 19/20 and 26/27.  The four teams had a combined record of 12-1-3 and outscored their opponents 52-20, including five shutouts, and went home with one finalist and three championship trophies, including the Jefferson Cup Platinum Division champion trophy.  This highlights the tremendous success of the Patriots’ program.

Patriots White participated in the Black Division of the PWSI Icebreaker tournament.  White opened with a 4-4 tie against CSC Swarm.  This was followed by a 5-2 victory over Virginia Rush Thunder.  In a scoring battle, Patriots White outscored Loudoun 99 White 5-4.  The final again pitted White against CSC Swarm.  Due to injuries, Patriots White could only field 8 players.  But those players were able to get the job done and defeat the Swarm 2-1 and claim the championship trophy.

Patriots White - FPYC Patriot Cup Finalist

The Patriots White entered the 2010 FPYC Patriot Cup with mild expectations.  They opened the tournament with a strong performance against FPYC Xcel, defeating the host 3-0.  THis was followed by wins against Arlington Chaos White (4-3) and CYA Legend Black (2-0).  The final game pitted the Patriots White against the young, talented SYA Cardinals Red.  After a tight first half, the Cardinals pulled away for a 6-2 victory.  Patriots Whote walked away with the Finalist trophy for the second time in as many tournaments.  The tournament was a good test as the team prepares to start the ODSL Fall 2010 season.

Patriots White Receives the ODSL Randy Rawls Sportsmanship Award

The Patriots White (ODSL U10 Girls Div 1), and sister team Patriots Silver (ODSL U10 Girls Div 2), each received the Randy Rawls Sportsmanship Award, which exhibits the best sportsmanship during the Spring 2010 season. In addition to the coaches votes, sportsmanship points are averaged from each referee report card.  Also, points are subtracted for yellow and red cards accumulated during the season. The prestigious award is named after Randy Rawls, one of the leagues original founders and its first President.  The award honors the winner’s sense of fair play, something for which Randy was renowned as he sought to bring soccer opportunities to the youth of Northern Virginia. Congratulations to both Patriots teams.

Patriots White - Virginian Tournament Finalist

VYS Patriots White had an exciting 2010 Virginian Tournament and road to the final, playing in the Bronze Division.  Patriots White battled through group play with a tie against Ashburn Elite and wins overBattle of Monmouth (New Jersey) and MSI Strikers (Maryland).  In the semifinal they squared off against the Wyckoff Torpedoes, also from New Jersey.  After 50 minutes of regulation the game was scoreless.  During the two 10 minute overtimes each team scored once, but the teams were tied at the whistle.  This lead to a five round shootout, again leaving both teams tied. Not until the sixth round did Patriots White win and move onto the final.

The final saw them square off against Springfield Storm Red.  Not to be outdone by the semifinal, this game remained a scoreless tie through regulation and the two overtime periods.  Again, Patriots White had to go to a shootout to determine the winner. And again, after the five shoutout rounds the score was tied.  In round six Storm Red made their shot and Patriots White did not.  The White team could walk away with their heads held high as they played very well throughout the tournament and walked away with the Bronze Division Finalsit Trophy.  Congratulations to Patriots White!
