Congratulations to U19 girls All Stars - Playing Hard and Having Fun!
Out of 15 teams in the U19 girls division, a relatively young U19G Vienna all-star team finished as the first seed at the end of the first day of the 2015 Herndon All-Star tournament!
That day Vienna beat 3 teams and tied the one team that eventually went on to win the tournament.
A stellar defensive line including Bridget Whelpley, Alyssa Guzman, Hailey Blaine and Shannon Sullivan fought off attackers along with amazing goalkeeper Emma Edwards who came up big with four clean sheets. The strong and talented midfield/front line worked together to make great passes, timely assists and fantastic goals. The offense consisted of Kelsey Lee, Yasmine Ahkami, Emily Baker, Elena Borrowman, Sophia Whelpley, Catherine Reilly, Grace Dhaiti, Tiffany Toscano and Olivia Updike. Scorers Grace Dhaiti, Elena Borrowman and Sophia Whelpley found the back of the net with some well-timed and perfectly-placed goals.
Vienna advanced to the semi-finals and lost a hard-fought battle. Special thanks to the outstanding team manager John Whelpley for support above and beyond the call. Also thanks to assistant coach Vicente Carbajal for his excellent coaching and the parents for their wonderful support. -Coach Dan Leach
