The Board of Directors meeting was opened at 7:46 PM.

Field assignments were the main topic of discussion for the evening.  Richard Montano stated that Madison High School had claimed Dunn Loring, Colvin Run and Marshall Road for weekday practices and Thoreau MS on Saturday till 1:00PM.  He will suggest to the county that we turn back Kilmer and in return have full use of Dunn Loring.

Mark Gardiner suggested that a meeting be set up between the schools AD, coaches and members of the VYS Board to discuss field usage and field closures.  Schools are not required to adhere to the counties closure policies thus tearing up the fields.

Terry Lash stated that we may get help from the new School Board Chairman who is supportive of youth sport groups.

Debbie Brenchick handed out the field assignments for the spring season.  VYS no longer has the use of Oakton HS during the week and has lost half of the time slots at Clarks Crossing.

Terry Lash stated that once the agreement with Capital One is reached we will have 2 practice fields on Mondays, 1 practice field on Wednesday and both fields on Sunday.

Other possibilities for practice fields are Luther Jackson MS and the piece of land at the Merrifield movie theater.  It was also suggested that the spring training program be moved to indoors. Mary Nunley will contact Jim Sullivan regarding this.

The Board discussed the need to organize the membership to put pressure on public officials.  VYS invests a considerable amount of money to upgrade and maintain several fields and our children deserve the right to be able to practice on them and not have them abused by high school teams.

Debbie Brenchick reported that on-line registration is on track.  Contributions have already exceeded what was collected last fall.

Joe Fishman reported on the sponsorship program

Kevin Quinn updated the Board on the field monitoring program.  It will be up and working by the start of the spring season.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Nunley
