VYS players and Inova physical therapists working together to stay injury-free.
Thank you to Inova Sports Medicine, Josh D'Angelo and Director Athletic Training and Outreach Christopher Young for working with our players and house coaches at the Global PT Day of Service event held Saturday October 17 at Luther Jackson MS.
Several U12 house teams, boys and girls, jumped, planked, and walked Frankensteins across the turf during warmups led by physical therapists at Inova Sports Medicine. The event was part of a global movement called the Global PT Day of Service when physical therapists around the world offer their services within their community for the betterment of the community.
At Luther Jackson MS, several Inova physical therapists were on hand working with youth players on how to get properly warmed up before their games. Warm ups that get the heart pumping without causing stress to joints and muscles which included proper jumping techniques to help avoid potential ACL and back injury.
Finale of the event included a brief demonstration of the Inova Sports Medicine Sportmetrics training program. A team of U14 travel girls jumped, sprinted, and stretched in a controlled fashion to maximize strength and agility without incurring pain and potential injury.
"It was a great day and we're very lucky to have Inova Sports Medicine as our partner in helping our youth players learn about how to avoid injury and have fun.", VYS Executive Director Catherine Keightley.
