VYS U9G “Sharks” win FPYC All-Star Championship!
VYS U9G “Sharks” are victorious in the FPYC Father’s Day Championship final!
On Saturday, the first game of the tournament, the VYS Sharks tore up the competition with a 6-2 pounding of Loudoun Youth Soccer. The offense had many goals fed mainly by the huge toss and beautiful passes of left defender Emily Calhoun. Striker Vanessa Natale kicked two goals from the right side into that went sailing into the far left post. Nicole Fitzpatrick was served up a cross into the center; she struck the ball so hard that it almost went out of the net. But the highlight was a “field goal” by right defender Nicole Carrillo-Vallejo from midfield line. The ball went high into the air and dropped down right into the goal. The Loudoun goalie had NO chance!
The second game of the day against BRYC was a rain delay. After a late start, the game began. The VYS Sharks clearly dominated, however only striker Helen Francis was able to convert and it was 1-0 by half time. BRYC came out the second half and scored a quick goal and the game was tied. As VYS Sharks began to dominate again, the game was called due to thunder, so the 1-1 tie stood.
On Sunday, the VYS Sharks face a tough All Star team by Burke. The VYS Sharks scored early and set the tone. An insurance goal was scored on a powerful kick by injured goalie turned striker Kristen Putman and VYS Sharks seemed to enjoy a comfortable lead. However, the tenacious Burke team wasn’t done and their raised their game. They were awarded a penalty kick late in the second half and scored.
However, the penalty kick seemed to put the VYS Sharks into frenzy and the defense became impenetrable. Defenders Sarah Franklin and Celia Dauerer, along with sweeper Rachel Carlton, slammed every ball forward and nothing was getting passed midfield. Audrey Kellan received a cross from center and took a quick hard shot on goal. The Burke goalie, caught off guard, had no chance and the VYS Sharks were up and eventually won 3-1.
With their undefeated record, the VYS Sharks earned a slot into the championship match against also undefeated Southwestern Youth Soccer. The game was very evenly matched. The VYS Sharks came out strong and scored a goal early in the first half but SYA was undaunted and hit the equalizer soon after. The half finished with a 1-1 tie.
For this championship, the VYS Shark goalies ruled the game. The majority of the saves came from lead net minder Maya Negash who played the entire regulation time. She was quick with numerous saves against the powerful SYA attack.
Despite numerous shots from both sides, neither team scored in the second half. With a 1-1 tie, the game went into overtime, and Kailyn Fee took over in goal. At the end of OT, it was still 1-1 so it would be a shoot out to determine the championship.
The shoot out began and goalie Kailyn Fee stared down the entire SYA and didn’t let them score once. She had four saves in a row and destroyed SYA’s chances of a first place finish. VYS Sharks Rachel Carlton and Audrey Kellan scored their penalty kicks to finish up the game. The VYS Sharks prevailed and won the championship!!
The team was made up of a superior group of girls who were great on and off the field. They were a pleasure to coach. The VYS Sharks are Emily Calhoun, Rachel Carlton, Nicole Carrillo-Vallejo, Celia Dauerer, Kailyn Fee, Nicole Fitzpatrick, Helen Francis, Sarah Franklin, Audrey Kellen, Vanessa Natale, Maya Negash, Kristen Putman, and head coach Barry Fitzpatrick, along with the assistance of John Fee and Jill Maroney.
VYS U9G “White Mustangs” were finalists in the FPYC Father’s Day Championship final!
On Saturday, the first game of the tournament, the VYS White Mustangs started their engines and played a tough Loudoun Youth Soccer Black team to a 2-2 draw. The game went back and forth up the pitch but both teams locked down their defense and didn’t allow any further goals.
The second game of the day was against a Chantilly (CYA2) team where the “White Mustangs” controlled 90% of the ball control in the CYA2 end and were up 4-0 when the game was halted with about 10 minutes left by the impending thunderstorm. In fact, the “White Mustangs” could have even left their goal empty as they thoroughly dominated the CYA2 team with only several balls kicked into the “White Mustangs” end and the game was counted by FPYC officials.
On Sunday, The VYS “White Mustangs came roaring out of the starting line against a Herndon (HYS1) team. With the first half ending in a 0-0 tie, the “White Mustangs” adjusted the game plan at halftime and 5 goal scoring run that resulted in a 5-0 win. The second of two shutouts in tournament play.
With a 2-0-1 undefeated record in round robin play, the VYS ‘White Mustangs” earned a slot into the championship match against a tough undefeated Southwestern Youth Soccer (SYA2). The game was evenly matched but SYA2 came out on top 2-0 to win the championship. The VYS ‘White Mustangs” had several good scoring chances with a one shot even going off the post but lady luck was not on our side.
The team was made up of a superior group of girls who were great on and off the field. They were a pleasure to coach. The VYS “White Mustangs” are Madeline Chiarizia, Charis McClean, Jackie Rothey, Samantha Sechser, Jillian McIntyre, Kaitlin Gutenson, Anna Bonaquist, Paige Emory, Meredith Lee, Abigail Porterfield, Tyler Gaugler, Grace Slye and head coach Tom Chiarizia and assisted by Dave McClean as well as a super group of parents who supplied canopies, fruit and snacks.

Congratulations to the Vienna Youth Soccer U9 Boys who brought home their Second All-Star Tournament Trophy!
Juga Bonito defeated most of their opponents by 1 goal. The most Challenging match was a battle with the host FPYC team. An obvious Pre-Travel team looking for a slot in NCSL. It was obvious from the start this team was different: FPYC Scored 3 quick goals in the first 10 minutes. Another team would have given up, but everyone of these VYS All-Stars proceeded to Dig Deeper than I’ve ever seen a team Go: They proceeded to dominate every aspect of the remaining 50 minutes of play. The opposing sideline was silenced as VYS beat every opponent with superior one-on-one foot skills while taking the level of physical play beyond what FPYC had ever seen before. Very impressive boys: I’m still in Awe!
Carpe Diem! It was a beautiful weekend for futbol! Juga Bonito!
The U11 boys White team won all three of its first round games to advance to the finals of the FPYC “C” draw.
Vienna beat a strong Loudoun Red team 2-1, dominating playing and nearly scoring several more. In the second round under threatening skies, the White Team led 3-0 against the host FPYC team at half when the game was called on account of lightening. In the final first round game, Vienna eeked out a 2-1 win, dominating the first half to lead 2-0 against CYA (with a dozen other makeable opportunities), before surrendering a goal in the second half to make it tight.
Vienna then played in the championship against a strong SYA, with two wins and tie (to Loudoun Red), losing 4-2. Again, Vienna played a strong game, coming back to tie the game at one, and closing it to 4-2, and ending with a flurry of shots and opportunities, but an inability to finish our chances (we even hit a header over the goal on a corner kick with the ball bouncing off the turf first).
The U13 Vienna White Team enjoyed a very successful tournament, winning its first two games in dramatic fashion against the two
Springfield teams, both by the score of 2-1, both after trailing 1-0. In the first game against Springfield 1,
Vienna stormed to tie it a pretty run by Luke Dzeidzic and won the game, literally in the final seconds, on a goal by
Nicholas Newberry . The second game starting in light rain on the artificial surface after a long delay for lightening, was equally exciting. Springfield 2 scored early in the second half but Vienna charged back to tie it on Nicholas Newberry’s second goal of the tourney, withstood a penalty kick on an enormous save by team MVP Scott Gibson, and scored on a Luke Dziedzic breakaway with seven minutes left in the match to win. Sunday was less satisfying for Vienna White. Having already clinched a spot in the “C” draw finals, we played NVSC 1 and lost a heartbreaker 1-0 when our defense stopped playing thinking it had been fouled to allow a breakaway score. As a result we again played now undefeated NVSC 1 in the finals.
Vienna jumped to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by most improved player
Jacob Potter , but surrendered a goal in the waning of minutes of each half, including a disputed “arm of god” goal in the final seconds.
