VYS teams participate in the following leagues:
- National Capital Soccer League (NCSL)
- Old Dominion Soccer League (ODSL)
- Virginia Premier League (VPL) part of the National Premier League (NPL)
- Virginia Development Academy (VDA)
Teams are allocated within these leagues based on ability and team skills. VYS Teams play other club teams in the same league.
Virginia Premier League (VPL) part of the National Premier League (NPL)
|Clubs from Northern and Southern Virginia compete in clubcentric league to progress to national finals. League also provides coach education support and a player identification program linked to US Club Soccer named id2.||

Who selects what league a team will play in?
VYS Directors of Coaching will place teams based on player/team evaluations.
How many teams can participate in each league?
ODSL and NCSL: A club may apply for any number of teams.
VPL: One team per age group/gender U11 - U18
When does each league start and end?
ODSL and NCSL Fall: September - November / Spring: April - June
VPL Fall: August - December / Spring: March - May
How far will I have to travel?
ODSL and NCSL: Travel will vary based on league schedule. Travel geography: Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland
VPL: Teams will play half of their games at home and half of the games away. Travel geography: Richmond, Virginia Each, Chesterfield and Northern Virginia.
Will a NCSL player have the opportunity to guest play on the VPL team?
Players rostered with our NCSL teams will have the opportunity to train and play matches with the VPL team based on performance, player evaluations, and technical staff recommendations.
Are leagues both Fall and Spring?
ODSL and NCSL U9-U18: Fall and Spring
VPL U11-U14: Fall and Spring
VPL U15 - U18: Fall only - teams will participate in NCSL for the Spring season based on technical staff recommendations.
Will the red teams of all age groups participate in the VPL league?
No, only the U11-U17 boys and girls red teams will participate in the VPL league.
Will VYS participate in the VPL league in both the Fall season and Spring season? If my team doesn't participate in VPL one season, what league will they participate in?
U11-U14 will play VPL in both the Fall and Spring seasons. U15 and above will play VPL in the Fall only. In the Spring, U15 and above will participate in NCSL based on technical staff recommendation.
What is the additional cost for my player to participate in the VPL league?
The cost for a red player is an additional $150.00 for the travel year.
Can I choose for my player not to participate in VPL?
All players selected will be rostered to play in the VPL league. If a family does not wish to participate in this league, please contact your Director of Coaching.
How many away games are there each season in VPL?
Teams will play half of their games at home and half of the games away.
