VYS Travel Team Tryouts
Fall 2017 - Spring 2018 Season
Registration for Travel tryouts is now open. Anyone who wants to tryout, must register.
VYS coaches understand that tryouts can be stressful experiences and will do what they can to provide as much information as possible about the process to the players and parents. In general terms, tryouts consist of small sided games and large sided games observed by our coaching staff. Multiple coaches will observe players and use the assigned numbers to take notes and make selections.
From the Directors of Coaching, Kevin James & Michel Vanderhart
We encourage any player wishing to improve his or her soccer skills to attend the VYS travel soccer tryouts. We strive to offer players a fantastic soccer experience for the 2017/18 travel season! Playing competitive soccer is not only a lot of fun but you will develop life skills as well as lifelong friendships.
We also recognize that soccer tryouts can be one of the most difficult challenges that youth athletes can face, both physically and emotionally. We want to ensure that the players are managed appropriately during and after this process, to ensure that they remain positive, and the experience has been worthwhile.
It’s important to remember the positives in the tryout experience – and that these positives exist whether or not your young athlete makes the final cut. Tryouts are one of the many experiences in youth sports that prepare us for similar situations in our adult life, such as college applications, job interviews and more.
House Player - Travel Tryout
For House players interested in trying for VYS Travel for the 2017/18 season U10-U16 we will offer House player only tryouts on Friday nights before tryouts. House players will be evaluated by our travel coaches in a low-pressure environment to determine whether they are ready to try out for the Travel program. Players trying out will be notified within 48 hours whether they should participate in the following week’s Travel tryouts.

Players should attend both tryout dates.
If you are unable to attend both tryouts, please contact the Director of Coaching for your appropriate age group:

Inclement Weather Guidelines
In case of rain or lightning, please check our website at www.vys.org to see if the tryout fields are open. Decisions will be made as early as possible and be notified through appropriate channels. After 3 pm, it will be the Tryout Director in consultation with VYS staff that make the decision whether to hold the tryout.
When lightning occurs, and is seen before or during a tryout, everyone must leave the field and go to their vehicles immediately. The tryout may resume after 30 minutes since the last lightning strike. It is the Tryout Director in consultation with VYS staff to decide whether to continue or cancel the tryout after the 30 minutes.
Tryout Notification and Acceptance
Notifications will be sent 48 hours after last tryout with flexibility to extend offers before that.
Please note that if your tryout ends on a Friday, your 48-hour response period will begin on the Monday of the following week.
To accept an offer, a player has 48 hours to respond and confirm acceptance. Players will be expected to respond via registration with paid deposit in Demosphere. Deposits are non-refundable.
