VYS Hurricanes Finalist in the Hunt Country Classic 2007
VYS Hurricanes (U11G) Win the Dulles National 2007 Championship

In their first competition of the 2007 – 2008 seasonal year, the VYS Hurricanes won the Dulles National Soccer tournament going undefeated in all four games.  The victory was particularly sweet for our five new teammates and one guest player who have never played travel soccer.  The coaches and the parents are extremely proud of our girls.

Our first opponent, the BRYC Fusion proved to be our toughest opponent.  Our strong defense, consisting of Julia, who never lets a player get past her with the ball; Ariela, who consistently tackles the ball and sends it up to the mid field;  Jamie,  who never lets an attacker get around her;  Erin, who has shown she can win the ball and score from her defensive position; Andrea, who may look small, but never backs down from anyone; Emma, who is a great goalie, but prefers striker (and can finish); with occasional help from Caitlin, Maddie, and Nicole, never allowed a single goal in this game.  In fact, they did not allow a single goal during all regulation and over time for the entire tournament!  Alysia, who is a top performer in every position (including goalie), scored our first goal on a great assist from Andrea.  Alysia scored our second goal, going one on one with the goalie, for a 2-0 victory.

Next up, we battled the SYA Bombers.  Our attacking mid-fields, Caitlin, who owns the field;  Allie, who never runs out of energy; Jasmine, who never gives up; Maddie, the little girl who makes big plays; and Julia, kept pressure up on the Power’s defenders. Goals scored by Morgan, our top striker from our spring season; Nicole, who shoots equally well with either foot; and Alysia, gave us a 3-0 victory.

We faced the Herndon Power at 7:30 Sunday morning.  The girls arrived by 6:45 to make sure they were fully prepared.  Caitlin and Julia both scored goals from their center mid positions for a 2-0 victory.

The BRYC Fusion made it into the finals with us.   They played hard and physical as they left no doubt that they wanted to win the championship.  Regulation time ended with a 0-0 tie.  At the end of two 10 minute over time periods, the score remained tied at 0-0.  Alysia, playing goalie for the first time in the tournament was our choice to defend on the PK shootout that would decide the tournament.  Caitlin fired first for our team, scoring easily. But, the Fusion came back to tie it up, and then, went ahead 2-1.  Morgan tied it back up for us. Allie, our final shooter, scored the winning goal for a 3-2 victory, in a very exciting finish to a great tournament.  This is a great start to the new season.

Vienna Hurricanes
The VYS Hurricanes were formed in February, 2006, and played their first season in ODSL.  We picked the Virginian, an international tournament, for our debut tournament.  The girls went all the way to the semi-finals in four hard fought games, missing out on the finals by a single goal.  After a great first season, the Hurricanes will play in WAGS in the fall of 2006.
