Vienna All Star teams came to play at the annual FPYC All Star Tournament on June 20-21. Teams fought hard, played with courage and displayed great sportsmanship and had fun! #viennastrong
U9 Girls White team had a fun-filled soccer weekend. After 2 weeks of practice and scrimmages, they truly worked together and played some really great soccer! Congrats girls on a winning record!
Vienna Red U13G Griffons take it to the Finals!
The team fought with heart and determination to get to the championship final, playing exceptional and beautiful soccer to get there! Playing in the finals, the game remained scoreless until McLean scored with five minutes left in regulation.
Not willing to fold and with time running out, the team quickly regrouped and fought back, scoring in the last 30 seconds of regulation to take the game to extra time. Vienna Griffons simply did not want this game to end. So the game went into extra time. The teams were so evenly matched that the game remained deadlocked after extra time.
So we went to penalty kicks. After 5 penalty kicks a piece, the game was still tied! So we went into extra penalty kicks. We missed the 7th penalty kick but we had a wonderful ride through all of this. The girls played liked champions and left nothing on the field.

We were VYS White in the U14 Gold Divn and our first game was an early 8am kick-off Saturday under gray skies against VSA. I have to say that the VSA team all looked at least 18 years old - they were big guys. We conceded a goal after only two minutes, but then held on for the rest of the game - admittedly on the back foot for much of the time. Nevertheless we created chances and we matched them for speed and skill both in offense and defense. However their sheer physical size was a major factor and they got a second goal about five minutes from full time. So a 2-0 loss.
Our second game was a 1.15 kick-off against NVSC who had won their first game 3-1. Our boys wanted to make up for the first game loss and went all out. It wa blistering hot by that time of day and the refs gave us welcome water breaks effectively splitting the games into quarters. We won the game 4-1, a great show of character after the early morning loss.
Sunday morning we faced FPYC Gold who had lost to NVSC but had managed a tie against our nemesis VSA! We started out dominating the game and spent 25 of the first 30 minutes in the FPYC half, hitting the cross bar once and making their GK save at least three times, but the ball just would not go into the net! So all square at 0-0 at half time. Inevitably and against the run of play (no bias here!) FPYC got a break and scored. But our boys rallied and came back to tie it up at 1-1 with about five minutes left. Despite some great attacking soccer and superb passing we could not clinch the winner.
So we missed out on the final but we had a great time and the boys all finished with smiles on their faces. We can take some consolation from the fact that VSA went on to win the final - so no shame in losing to the eventual champs.
The boys were a credit to VYS and to the game of soccer - they played with determination, passion and great sportsmanship. The refs were good, and all parents and coaches were well behaved and supportive. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend of soccer.
Vienna Strikers enjoy success at FPYC All Star Tournament
The weather was hot and humid but the Vienna Strikers U8B All Star team cooled down the opposition with some great performances ! The boys scored a total of 21 goals in 3 games and ended with 2 wins and 1 loss to win their group. The best performance came in the final game against Herndon where the boys displayed fantastic spirit, courage and determination to come back from a 5-0 deficit after half-time to almost salvage a tie. Coaches Dave and Ed are really proud of the Strikers and all of the hard work that they put in over the past couple of weeks. Way to go Vienna Strikers !

The VYS U8 Boys Venom Vipers went 2-1 in the FPYC Father’s Day Tournament. They Had An Amazing Time!!
The Team, led by Coach David Harvey, started Saturday with an exciting but unfortunate 4-2 loss. However it was followed by an excellent effort in a 4-2 victory.
Sunday morning's game was cancelled because of severe storms in the area but the boys responded with a crushing 10-0 VICTORY in the afternoon to end the fun weekend on an absolute high note!
Their Coach and especially the parents were so proud that the Venom Vipers built new friendships, played so well, showed heart, and continued as a team to the final whistle of every game. Great job Venom Vipers!

Although the rain shortened the schedule by a game, the U8 Boys Yellow “Vipers” let nothing dampen their fun. The boys had a great time and certainly put together an impressive tourney: 3-0….racking up 29 goals while conceding only 6.
Every boy scored a few goals, everyone hustled back on defense and everyone had a blast.
Much more important than the impressive goal differential was the sportsmanship that each and every one of the boys displayed. We had a number of opposing coaches and parents complement our boys after our games on how they acted, even when we got up to big leads…they truly did VYS proud across the board.

VYS U12B Vienna Blue won their bracket at the FPYC All Star Tournament. The team began with strong defensive show in a 1-1 draw in their first game, then put together an offensive exhibition for a 6-1 win in the second game. The team advanced to the final based on a goals scored/allowed tiebreaker and faced a 2-0 Herndon team which had not given up a goal in the tournament. Herndon scored first, but with great saves by the goal keeper and smart play all over the field Vienna kept coming back. With a minute to play, the score was tied 3-3. A well placed corner kick was played for a goal as Vienna secured a 4-3 win with seconds left in the game. Vienna Blue never stopped hustling despite the searing heat, encouraged and supported each other, and played together as a team to earn a victory nobody at the field will ever forget.

The U10 VYS girls showed their spirit, strength and sportsmanship in hard fought games this weekend. We sent two teams to the tournament, but due to the bad weather our time was cut short to just Saturday. So instead of ending on a wet note, coach Sergio and I pulled the teams together for a friendly match on Sunday. These girls never cease to amaze me with their excitement for the game and each other. Proud to have represented VYS and more importantly Vienna in the tournament.

Coaches Lucas Wall and Ali Samantar led U08 VYS Black to win its bracket at the FPYC Father’s Day Tournament with two wins, one tie, and zero losses.
The first game was an exciting match ending in a 5-5 tie. The second and last games were decisive and energetic victories with final scores of 6-2 in each. Several boys scored goals throughout the tournament and our defensive players consistently thwarted the opponents.
The boys made new friendships, displayed excellent sportsmanship, and developed into a cohesive and effective team in a short period of time. Each member of the team played every game with passion, energy, and skill. The coaches and parents are incredibly proud of the team's effort and spirit.

The U11 Boys VYS Blue team had a fantastic run and very memorable tournament.
Tying our first game 3-3 and winning our second game 2-0 was enough to put us into our division championship game on Sunday against Loudoun, the first place team.
VYS Blue came out strong in the first half taking it right to Loudoun. We played 80 to 90 percent of the game in Loudoun’s half resulting in a 2-0 first half lead for VYS Blue. Loudoun came out strong to start the second half and before we knew it they had scored two quick goals. Within five minutes of Loudoun scoring its final goal, we scored our third and what would turn out to be the winning goal. We then held on and repelled everything Loudoun threw at us until the referee blew the final whistle for a final score of VYS Blue 3 – Loudoun 2!
